"I posted earlier about how the Sanitaire wasn't doing its best and got a few recommendations to go for a modern bagged vacuum. After doing a bit of research I thought the Sebo E3 would do an amazing job and could consolidate my two vacuums into one (the other being an older Mighty Mite). I got it home and vacuumed my living room and felt disappointed in many ways. It's more fidley, with the light turning red and the brush turning off at different spots of my carpet. That might be user error. I had the height on 3 but played with all 4 settings. It \*really\* didn't feel like it was doing as good of a job as my waning Sanitaire. Not agitating the carpet nearly as much and the suction doesn't seem particularly high compared to the Mighty Mite. I went out and bought a belt for the Sanitaire and went over the living room again with a new belt and bag. I'm embarrassed I didn't replace the belt sooner since that seems to have made a pretty big difference. The bag had a lot of dust that wasn't picked up by the Sebo. I feel pretty bad about my purchase. I live in an apartment with a 75/25 mix of carpet and hard floor. I thought I could save space and just replace my two vacs with one. It turns out that the potential space savings aren't worth it. Were my expectations out of whack? Is something wrong with my Sebo?"

"Depends on what you’re looking for (cordless, stick, upright, canister etc) depending on your budget, space, carpet/flooring, pets etc Been through a few stick Dysons which were fine for small spaces/quick clean-ups. "Everyone here is all about BIFL. I have a Kenmore 600. Consider I got mine for just under $300. If it lasts 10-15 years and breaks I could buy 30-45 years of these vacuums for less than the alternative and in a decade or two maybe they'll be even better anyway. "Actually, I will try what you are doing. = ) So far the cons are the 600 is clunky. I bought only because of the high suction , motorized head/I have carpeted bedrooms. The rest of the house is hardwood and vinyl. My living room is incredibly cluttered. What I have to do is move everything. "Ouch, that's a costly regret.  I don't routinely suggest the D4 because it's a tank of a vacuum and much too big to wield unless the house is huge and there's a lot of open space.  If you bought it at a local dealer, perhaps you can complain about your issues and see if they can consider a trade in/exchange.  I don't see Sebo vacuums being sold 2nd hand very often in my local sale sites, but when I do it's usually a D4 with people mentioning it that it's "too much vacuum" for them. It would be hard to recover your expenses on the 2nd hand local market, you'd be lucky to sell it for half.   Some of what you describe might be just the issues people encounter when they first use canister vacs and some people never adjust to them and will always prefer uprights.  Your D4 shouldn't be falling over, you should keep it on it's wheels unless you are vacuuming something like the stairs.  When you vacuum, enter a room with the canister behind you istead of reverse vacuuming out of a space like normally done with an upright.  Your non dominant hand supports the hose and pulls the canister behind you, while letting the hose wrap  around your backside and holding the vacuum wand in your dominant hand.  Go slow and keep corners and furniture in mind when pulling on the canister.  It may be that you will never like a canister format.  "

"Some brands are EXPLICITLY designed for planned obsolescence. To me... its less of "snobbery" than it is... just not wanting to be stolen from, passively, by crappy appliances. "I was voted down for recommending to someone the Commercial Hoover Hushtone + upright instead of something German and specifically a Sebo Felix. The OP had a price point and the kind of carpeted home that the Hushtone would excel on but my suggestion was down voted. I get grief for suggesting a Kenmore is a more reliable and potentially more durable vacuum than a Miele. Miels have a lot of quality problems but some here don't want to hear it. I also get grief for suggesting that a Sebo K or E model is a better choice than the D because the cleaning power is the same, same exact power nozzle but the D is super expensive. Why spend the extra money? You could have a nice weekend somewhere with your wife for the difference in price. Nobody gives a rip what vacuum is in your closet. It's not a life style statement. "I've used both and I like the Kenmore Elite upright vacuum a lot more. They use hepa bags and they have brushroll shutoff so you can turn off the brushroll for hard floors and when you are using the hose. Suction for both vacuums is very good. The downside is they are a heavy vacuum with a short hose. The Hoover Commerical HushTone is a better commercial vacuum for standing up to employee abuse. It has a few metal pieces in high stress areas. It has less height adjustment and no brushroll shutoff, so when you are using the hose the brushroll is always on. It's quieter on the low power mode but suction is noticeable lower, it's better as a high/low switch for hose suction. I wouldn't vacuum carpets in low mode unless it was some lightweight rug that is getting stuck. I hate using the Hoover on hard floors and using the hose you just hear the brushroll beating itself up. Downsides are the Hustone is also heavy and it only comes with paper bags."

But the E3 is less expensive, has speed control on the hose handle, a better tool set, tool-free removable brushroll, parts are far less expensive, and legendary SEBO commercial grade build quality and repairability. "This is going to be an issue with basically every cordless stick style vac at or below $250, depending on the debris it's picking up etc. They aren't really meant to be your main vacuum or for heavy cleaning. I wouldn't recommend tineco really, many of their models need frequent filter cleaning. Same goes for shark etc and they are judt as likely to clog. If you're ok with not having attachments, the Gtech airram is under budget and works pretty well. Has an extremely short air pathway, debris only travels like 4 inches from the floor to the bin. The weight is also down on the floor and not on your wrist. The airram does need filter cleaning periodically but it's way less likely to clog up with coarse debris. It's not going to last forever but you can get a few years out of them. And again no attachments or handheld unit, but it's a decent pick under your budget. Some versions of the airram on amazon are well below $200."

"I'd look at a gtech airram. They have several models under the $200 mark. The shark freestyle is an ancient design, it's been avaliable with a different outer casing for over a decade. It uses old style nimh batteries and has a long air path from the floor to the bin prone to clogging. Frankly I'm dumbfounded that they still sell it, and for such a high price. Gtech airram has more modern battery chemistry and an extremely short path from the floor to the bin not prone to blocking at all. And there's even less weight directly in the hand, the battery, motor, and bin are all in the base. The handle is just a handle. Only potential issue is neither would be great on stairs, I'd suggest a separate handheld vac for that."

"I have a Riccar Vibrance R20 series for over 10 years and a Simplicity Freedom. They still run fine with no major issues, however I would'nt ever buy another Riccar vaccum. They shifted production for many of their models back to China. The R25 series to me looks extremely cheap, the Tandem air machines are nothing but problems galore, they mostly discontinued all of their power team canisters.. not much of anything to choose from anymore. Their best machines they made in my opinion were the 8850/ 8955."

"This is up my alley and I do not see a true answer to your question. Between the Dyson Gen5outsize and the Miele TriFlex HX2, the Dyson is the far superior unit. The TriFlex falls short in a couple areas, with the main one being the bin and filter design. On top of being harder to empty, the Miele's bin only has one cyclone compared to Dyson's advanced multi-cyclonic design, so the Dyson keeps way smaller particles out of the pre-motor filter. The Miele is known for soiling filters very quickly. On top of the filters of the Miele getting dirty quickly, they also have a non-washable pleated pre-motor filter that is supposed to be brushed and tapped over a trash can, a design that was phased out by most brands in the late-2000s or early-2010s. Furthermore, the Miele has a non-accessible exhaust filter, which is absurd for the price of the unit. The Dyson has fully accessible filters that are simple for the user to wash and change. I will give the Miele some points for its "TriFlex" design, though. The way you can set the unit in different ways is cute, but the downsides trump the upsides for me. The negative aspects of the TriFlex models are so prominent that I am convinced that the only vacuum cleaner technicians who say they are good sell them in their showroom. Their bagged canister vacuum cleaners have a history of being excellent, but they have never released a bagless or cordless design that I would feel right recommending. As far as the Gen5 compared to other Dyson models, I would not say that there is a better one. The Gen5 lineup is the most recent, most revised, and most powerful. "I have an hx2 and no issues , I use it daily for the entry way and kitchen. I don’t have a dog so I don’t have to clean the brush roller very often. The main reason I like it is that you can configure it so the motor is at the bottom so it can stand by itself, the battery is user replaceable and the power is great. Is it perfect? No , I have a bagged Miele too that I pull out for deep cleaning as it’s more maneuverable, something I find canisters to be over any upright anyway. The dirt container could also be bigger but you are supposed to empty them frequently anyway. The duo flex just came out, designed to be their entry level model but seems to be redesigned from the the triflex. In Canada the warranty cannot be beat since they extend it to 5 years , which is more than double anyone else’s warranty. They are also frequently on sale , though since the duoflex just launched it probably isn’t on sale yet If you have the time, recommend going to try them out at a local store"

"This is an amazing find. Sebo Felix(s) are great vacuums because they clean well and they are durable and easily repairable. Yes, you should replace your Shark with this vacuum. Clean your carpets with your Shark and then go over them with the Felix and check inside the bag, you'll be amazed. Each bag lasts 2-3 months. The dusty smell is coming from the filters. There's a pre-motor filter under the bag and the outer blue filter which looks like a large bag on the outside. Change both filters and it shouldn't smell dusty anymore. You can choose a different color outer filter called the Microfilter with textile or stick with the same light blue. You can even use the Sebo Dart filter if you want a solid dark blue color."

"I have a riccar supralite (same machine) and vastly prefer it to the heavy sebo it replaced. This cleans the carpets better as well."

"I look after a fleet of a dozen Supralites and they have their problems after a while. The wire between the head and the body will short out in six years-ish, the bags are pricey, and the roller brush bearings will seize due to infiltration of ultra-fine particulate. Some staff are using Henry’s now, and so far they’ve been great. Whether they live up to their workhorse reputation remains to be determined."

"Honestly? Between my Roborock Qrevo and my Dyson V10 the Miele hardly gets any use. That probably wouldn’t be the case if I lived in a larger home or had deeper pile carpet, but for me the robot plus stick combo is all I need most of the time. "I had a Roborock s7 Maxv Ultra. The filling station was nice, but I had 2 of them break in less than a year. One had a wheel stop working. The other one had a sensor error and kept thinking it was trapped. Then I had a Roborock Q Revo that stopped charging after 2 months. I also bought them refurbished off of EBay. They couldn’t be repaired, but I did receive a full refund through Allstate which was included without an additional fee. I didn’t have any issues with the suction. I have a pet who sheds a lot and it would get all of the pet hair. The station was really nice for auto emptying. I have an open concept ranch with an odd layout and the mapping was really good. The station did a pretty good job cleaning the mop pads. But I don’t think the s7 did as good of a job mopping compared to even the Q Revo since it uses the sonic mopping instead of the dual spinning mop heads. I haven’t tried the Deebot so I can’t compare. I gave up on Roborock after having so many issues. I ended up getting a Dreame X30 and I’ve been happy with it. The obstacle avoidance has been better with Dreame and it does a little better with edges and corners. Another thing to consider is the availability of filters and roller brushes and the long term cost for those. I reached out to Roborock because the filter in the s7 maxv station broke and I couldn’t find a replacement filter. They told me to buy a third party one off of aliexpress. I asked them about voiding the warranty by using third party parts and they never responded to that question. It was particularly worrisome as that’s a part that could easily break and this was back when the s7 was fairly new. It wasn’t like I was trying to find a part for an old model. Then I bought a couple third party ones off of Amazon that didn’t fit right. The roller brushes would often go out of stock too and the third party ones didn’t work as well."

"I have a roborock qrevo vacuum mop, I have 2 kids and a dog. Its great for quick clean ups and maintaining. Its definitely not a deep clean but it works and have not had any hiccups with it. I use it just on hard floors and area rugs."

"The R10 is a direct air machine with a soft outer bag. It has no pre-motor filter and HEPA exhaust filter. All it has is a synthetic dust bag. It has no attachments and no hose and wand for spot cleaning or above floor cleaning. All you can do is clean carpets. The Hoover I suggested is $100 less, has a pre-motor and an excellent HEPA exhaust filter. It also has a hose and wand and on board attachments for above floor cleaning and spot cleaning."

"Enough paper in the motor could cause the fan to grind down to nothing, and the heat/friction can warp the surrounding housing. I’ve seen it before. The R10.S is an excellent machine, especially at that price. I sell it for $600. The Oreck vacuums are trash, they look the same as the old models but are made out of incredibly cheap plastic. I stopped selling them all together."

"Vacuums are personal, so no one can tell you to like something. That being said, don't under estimate how much cleaner a bagged vacuum is. Also, the Sebo Flex / X4 will outclean any bagless vacuum, especially the SEBO x4. You could fill you dyson more than 20 times to its max level vs filling a sebo upright vacuum bag once. Bags hold much more dirt. With bagless vacuums you see dirt spin and get a huge visual effect. It may look like the bagless vacuum is doing a good job, but if you emptied the bin and vacuumed it all up into a bagged vacuum, it won't look like much at all. Every vacuum has its ups and downs, but bagged vacuums typically have more power than bagless vacuums, are longer lasting, and better for allergy's. And sebo vacuums bags are the easiest bags on this planet to find, and are easier to find than replacement filters for bagless vacuums. I've told, and I'm not at all joking, 50x more customers who had bagless vacuums that the filters are no longer available for their model as they've been discontinued, vs customer who had bagged vacuums. The last bag I had a really hard time finding for a customer, was for a Miele vacuum that was brought over from Italy in 1969. Dyson has never manufactured 1 vacuum that will out clean a Sebo X4."

"The “not dogging into the carpet enough” issue is a pretty common complaint with that model.For that I reason, I left the X4/X7 off the recommended list in favor of the less expensive machines with manual height adjustments (aka the Felix/Dart, K3, and G4). As an owner of an X4 & Felix/K3/E3/C3.1 (models with the same ET-1 powerhead design), I generally do feel the latter machines perform better on carpets. While the Felix isn’t [especially heavy to carry versus other uprights](https://i.redd.it/7ihi4lzrjrvc1.png) (in fact, the big handle on the side makes it super easy to carry up/down stairs), the dual-motor design does put extra weight in the hand versus the single-motor X4. I personally don’t find it to be especially noticeable in use, but YMMV. My personal opinion is that the K3 is the best value in the SEBO lineup on the basis of versatility/performance and that you hit majorly diminishing returns after that point. If you’re willing to compromise on hard floor performance or hose convenience, the G4 and Felix respectively are great cheaper alternatives. (there’s a number of other good machines in the price range as well, but I don’t want this comment to get annoyingly long lol)"

"Coming from someone that also has ADHD and a few other things my advice is get 2 vacs. Currently I have an einhell 18v cordless wet and dry for the real nasty jobs, cleaning the car, spillages etc which if you're clumsy like I am is worth its weight in gold. Second I've only just got a sebo x4 upright which after dealing with the hassle of a cordless Vax upright is a blessing. There's no adjusting the height of the brush bar for different floor types, it's very easy to change the bag and with the caps you aren't dealing with a cloud of dust. It can struggle with hard floors but that's where my little einhell really shines so I can't complain about that too much. I honestly thought all the talk about sebos on here was just the fanboys coming out but now I own one I get why there's so much hype around them and it's taken a lot of the effort out of vacuuming. If you're anything like me if I'm not feeling up to it and my internal battery is just too low to do it then there's not a chance. I've got a week plus before without vacuuming just because I couldn't be bothered with faffing about with batteries, emptying the bin and everything else it seems like a mountain of a task especially when energy is low."
