Best praise vs top criticism for KEF R7 Meta
“I absolutely love them. I went from klipsch 620f to q950 to q7 meta to r7 meta within a week, so it was a whirlwind. My wallet is not happy, but seeing (hearing) the differences between the klipsch I was used to and all the others was very cool and probably something I’ll never get to do again. I listen to pretty demanding music, so the rs really take it to another level, but I’m staying 2.1, so I wanted to go big. If you ever upgrade down the line you’ll be extra happy, but the qs are incredible and anything above them is into diminishing returns imo.”
“Thanks, nice to see other anime enjoyers here! Can't wait for S3 of Apothecary as well, and S2 of Frieren. Purifi amp is a huge improvement over AVR when listening at high volume. I often play music as I do things around the house and crank the system up. Even crossed over the R7 meta and R6 meta start to sound harsh on just the AVR. Good imaging goes away, it's kinda blaring and just a lot of noise tracing a song. Wasn't horrible but definitely not good. Purifi amp makes them sound so effortless even at close to 100db. I love being down the hall from the room, Yamaha AVR is set to +5db or +10db and music still sounds so so crystal clear. It's like down the hall could be an equally enjoyable listening position. I ran the R7 metas off a crown XLS 1502 at one point as well and it was also good (much better than AVR). I didn't A/B he crown vs Purifi. Honestly don't know if I can hear the difference if I did, but the purifi measures much better. cleaner power so it's peace of mind to me: Knowing this is about as good as it gets completely eliminates the "What if" itch which leaves me feeling fulfilled. If you're on the fence, and even if you aren't, I'd say pull the trigger and get it! We've essentially solved the amp rabbit hole and you can get end game amps for the price for an entry level - mid tier speaker. Lower volumes and it's good, not sure if a lot better but it's great. Occasionally i'll listen at -5db or 0db and it's just clarity turned up. Best i can describe it. Buckeye vs VTV: I got the buckeye purifi 3 channel because it was cheaper, I got the VTV NC502 4 channel because it was cheaper. I like VTV's enclosure better, seems more industrial. But I prefer the buckeye not getting as hot. I know they're different amps and that may be why too. Additionally, the VTV (which I use to power my surrounds) makes a very light popping noise when i'm starting and stopping playback. Not sure if it's a VTV thing or the NC502mp amp. For example, starting and stopping atmos tracks causes my surrounds to make a faint popping sound. It's not bad or loud, probably harmless but something i noticed. The Buckeye purifi amp does not do this with my LCR. TLDR: I like the functionality of the buckeye (it has adjustable gain too) but prefer the enclosure of the VTV. Again, their different amps and that might be why there's some differences too. Both excellent however. Another thing, VTV has 12v trigger in and out. My buckeye only has 12v trigger in.”
