For that price, they’re daylight robbery!"

"When I first bought my Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 (brand new early 2025) and paired it with a Yamaha A-S301, I honestly felt a bit disappointed. I usually prefer a more “flat” / neutral presentation, and I had been used to my old studio monitors (an older M-Audio BX8a). At the beginning, the Diamond 12.1 sounded kind of underwhelming to me: the mids didn’t feel as forward or detailed as I expected, and the treble felt a bit dark. I didn’t hate it enough to sell it, though so I just kept them, mostly using them as background speakers while working. Fast forward about a year: I did the A/B comparison again, and this time the result completely surprised me. I’ve basically fallen in love with the Diamond 12.1. The midrange now sounds smooth and natural, vocals feel “soft” in a good way, and the highs are easy to listen to for long sessions without getting sharp or fatiguing. The overall balance feels much more “right” to my ears. So yeah at least in my case, burn-in (or maybe my ears/brain adjusting, or both) seems like it made a real difference. Either way, I’m really glad I didn’t give up on them too quickly."

"There is no such thing as TT speakers vs. CD or streaming media speakers. You just want at the very least entry level audiophile speakers, such as Wharfdale 225s or ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2. Both of these are well under $500, and the Elacs are sometimes on sale at amazon for the low 300s. Or, look for open box or refurbished ones if you want to save money. Just try and get some that get down into the 40s hz (as both of these do) if you don't plan on adding a subwoofer. "
6· r/BudgetAudiophileView on Reddit
"The most common answer you will get on here for that price range is a Wiim amp (not the new vibelink) and Elac Debut 2.0 B6.2 bookshelf speakers. This is the most bang for your buck. The speakers punch above their weight class. The amp has many useful connections if you want to upgrade down the line - add sub, connect tv, etc. The WiFi streaming is superb. You’ll love it way more than Bluetooth. Others will have more creative answers but this amp/speaker combo is the standard for a reason."
5· r/BudgetAudiophileView on Reddit
"The KEFs are good speakers, but you will get a fuller output and deeper bass (down to 44 hz) if you went with these elac debut 2.0 b6.2 that have gotten equally good reviews as the KEFS. "I'm currently using Q Acoustics 3030i on a desktop system with an Emotiva BasX A2mini, a little overkill, but sounds great. I'm using a WiiM mini for streaming, but think I need a pre-amp or separate DAC to make it better. My speakers are B-Stock and I got them for $160 last year, the amp I just bought at a last chance deal from Emotiva for $197, and the WiiM I think was $90. I'll probably get a Topping or SMSL DAC for a little over $100 then be done"

3· r/BudgetAudiophileView on Reddit
"The Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 are an excellent choice. They will give you a wider soundstage and better stereo imaging than a sound bar can. And you would be surprised by the type of bass extension you can get out of them after accounting for room gain in a compact townhouse living room."

"With that in mind I just looked at Richer Sounds (UK only I think) and you can get the following for £1888, about €2200. Dali Oberon 5.1 speaker kit Denon AVR-X2800 To get full Atmos you’ll need to add more speakers later. The Amp will accommodate more but your budget might not right away. TBH true Atmos needs many more speakers, I’m not sure how many people really have a full setup in their living space, it can get quite ugly! 5.1 will sound great, add another sub for 5.2."

"$1500/pair? Dali Oberon 5 are $1500/pair (they go for less on sale). Compact in size but sound great, if you can A/B test, or want a more compact option."

"I recently upgraded my LCR to the Paradigm Premier 800F and 600C. So far they have been an incredible upgrade as compared to my older Klipsch speakers. While listening at an audio store's demo room they also had a Defiance S12 subwoofer and I was quite impressed. Very much on par to my SVS PB 1000 Pro. Very happy to buy Canadian as well as I live like an hour from the main factory in Mississauga."

"I just did the same thing recently. Went from a very old pair of RF82's and a RC62 to the Paradigm Premier 800F and the 600C. Wow! what a difference. Paradigm speakers are so smooth in comparison. I didn't realize just how harsh the Klipsch were, I guess because I had become accustomed to them over the years, but these Paradigm are so comfortable to listen to. I also added the 200B for surrounds. Just a wonderful system."

"The KEF Q150s might not be the right choice for you, as they are known for their more natural and laid-back sound profile. If you prefer something with crisper highs and more detail, I’d recommend looking at the Ascend Acoustics CBM-170SEs, which I personally run for my LCR. They’re in a similar price range to the Q150s at $488 for three speakers, and I’d describe them as crisp, highly detailed, and slightly bright. Another option would be the Emotiva XB1, which has a folded ribbon tweeter for enhanced clarity and precision. However, I don’t believe they are sold individually by default, so you may need to reach out to Emotiva to see if they will sell a single unit to achieve an identical LCR setup. Just FYI, another big advantage of using a bookshelf speaker as a center is improved performance and consistency. Most users buy a branded horizontal center speaker without realizing that the MTM (midrange-tweeter-midrange) design compromises off-axis performance, leading to inconsistent dialogue clarity for listeners sitting outside the sweet spot. Using an identical bookshelf for your center avoids this issue, ensuring a seamless and well-matched front soundstage."

"If ur looking for a budget Allrounder that can also be placed close to the wall i recommend the Dali oberon 3. Should be in ur price range and Dali makes fantastic speakers owned a few of them in the past. Also the kef q150 and q350 might be worth a look. Beautifull and amazing sound, soundtsage and imaging. Dali's offer a better bass tho. Personally like these options better than the ones u suggested but pick what u think is right for u!"

"I had Dali Oberon 3 and this was exactly my feeling as well, soundstage seemed recessed. After reading some reviews I found this out , even in comparison with Oberon 1 the larger 3 has more recessed stage. It felt for me like it’s not enveloping so I replaced with Dali Rubikore 2 and now it’s forward and more involving"

"Dali makes great and nice looking speakers. For example, the Dali Oberon 3 would fit your description well. [https://www.dali-speakers.com/en/products/oberon/oberon-3/](https://www.dali-speakers.com/en/products/oberon/oberon-3/) I also like the simple aesthetics of the Totem speakers. The Totem Loon for example: [https://totemacoustic.com/product/totem-loon-monitor/](https://totemacoustic.com/product/totem-loon-monitor/) I am using the Totem Kin Play mini in my desktop set-up, where I am at the moment, and really love the tonality of those speakers. I have the impression I hear noted that I didn't hear before. I added a sub and this setup sounds great."

"> LCR: Ascend Acoustics Sierra LX Absolutely love this. I recommend triple Ascend Sierra bookshelves for LCRs all the time, and I feel like people never go for it because it "looks weird". Meanwhile, they keep the grills on and would never know the difference. And Ascend Sierra bookshelf on its side will actually [preform more consistently](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0168/0444/6262/files/Sierra_LX_Center_Contour_Plot_Horizontal.png?v=1662879925) than most MTM center channels."

"You have a subwoofer, so you actually don't need tower speakers and can therefore purchase new speakers in your price range. I would try the Ascend Acoustics Sierra-LX. They dig fairly deep for bookshelves and are of very high quality with excellent measurements. They have a variety of real wood (not paper) veneer choices and are engineered and built in the U.S. from premium parts. As for Atmos overhead speakers, they have the HTM-200SE2 speakers that are voiced to go with any of their speaker lineup and can be mounted with brackets of various types (from fixed to adjustable). If you want in-ceiling speakers, I suggest RSL's C34E MKII speakers. They are excellent for the money and pair with a number of speakers. As for the receiver, I would most definitely go with a model that can handle at least 7.1.4 processing. Four overheads are much better than two given the way object sound operates."
