Best praise vs top criticism for AOC Q27G3XMN
“There're some miniLED options too, not that far from OLEDs (and costing 1/3). [https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/aoc/q27g3xmn](https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/aoc/q27g3xmn) Even miniLED VA panels are pretty fast and have faster transitions than most '''''fast ips 1ms'''''' panels. Also, OLED is not the best option for speed and motion clarity, that would be a TN Zowie with DyAC and/or DyAC2, horrible colors but waaaaay more motion clarity than OLEDs.”
“If you're usage is mainly productivity, I'd avoid OLED. Burn-in mitigation has come a long ways but its something inherent to the technology so longevity is still a concern (especially since OLEDs are known to get less bright over time). The main thing though for me, is text fringing - I've heard its less of a problem on newer OLEDs and worse on laptops than monitors but it was bad enough for me that I returned my laptop for a different one with a bright IPS. There's ways to mitigate it but again, for your usage its not worth the premium. For movies, it's amazing though. But again, if its only 20% of the time, you may as well get a cheaper monitor and buy an OLED TV. As someone who's dreamed of owning an OLED since the tech became widespread, I could never afford it. However, I recently bought a refurbished budget mini LED monitor (AOC Q27G3XMN) and am blown away with its performance (at least for black levels and HDR performance). Its the perfect in-between solution to achieve near OLED black levels while not having to babysit it and worry about burn in. No text fringing either. And this is a budget model so I can only imagine that higher end models will be even better. I mostly use it for productivity (no text fringing at all) but as a second monitor for videos, its perfect. I can't watch videos on my main IPS monitor (Dell S2721DGF) now because it looks so much worse in comparison. For your case, I'd suggest sticking with 4K for sure (crisp text + more real estate for productivity). If its your only monitor go for 32" - it seems like overkill until you actually start spreading work around and wish you had more space. If your savings are significant though, 27" should suffice. If you do plan to spend a good amount of time watching movies, go for miniLED and ensure it handles HDR well (for movies, HDR is leagues more impactful than resolution imo). Otherwise, I'd find a cheaper 4K IPS/VA and use the savings to buy an OLED TV for movies.”
