From my past experiences, a heat exchanger pot is a specialty item. There are cases where it will pay for itself in terms of fuel saved, and if those are the majority of your trips, then it would make sense, otherwise it would not. It all depends on the type of cooking you do and how much fuel you burn. I've found when I am going on trips with my wife and it's 4+ days between resupply points, then a heat exchanger pot (sans lid and handles) makes sense. Otherwise, a simple Toaks titanium is more efficient. I recommend you start with Toaks because it'll be the best choice for most cases. You can pick up a heat exchanger pot later for those special cases.

I have tried mac and cheese in my toaks 750 and it is a painful experience. I still have the ghosts of noodles burned into the bottom of my pot hundreds of boils later.
