Best praise vs top criticism for Google Pixel Watch 3
“there aren't a lot of options at that size. There is huawei's GT5 series which offers a 41/42mm watch for GT5 and GT5 pro - a lot of the styles are pretty feminine but they do include a pure black model if you are of the male gender and or what something that looks a little bit more masculine. They come at 5 atm. The GT5Pro includes "40m dive proof" rating - however my concern with that is its not entirely realistic if you are only 5atm - for that depth your really need a 10atm rating for diving to that depth to be pretty sure - ideally you also need inductive buttons. The only other brand offering watches that size are Garmin - a couple of various models offer between 36mm case to a 43mm case most being 42mm or less. They are all at least 5atm; though there are some options at 10atm. 10atm are good for water sports - if you are still lifeguarding and dealing with surf, jet skis etc a 10 atm rating woudl be a much better option. And if you could afford it and wear a slightly larger 43mm the Fenix 8 would probably be perfect as is recreational dive rated for 40m including a basic dive comp built in, has inductive buttons so you can use them in the water, and is 10atm rating so can easily handle high speed/pressure water sports. If you want wear os then you are looking at a pixel watch 3 or samsung GW - the smaller size models are between 40-42mm.”
“1) yes really isn't much in it - see the video. Its worth noting that garmins can use a chest strap so if you are that worried about such a marginal variation you really should be using a chest strap - PW3 can't natively do this. Yes garmin gives calorie detail - you get resting calories based on your user profile (so make sure its accurate - weight, height, age, gender and activity profile) which are charged across the 24hr period. Then garmin provides two types of active calories: 1) tracked activity - all activity you track - its based on the activity type to give the baseline MET value for the activity, the duration and then the level of intensity is added through HR and pace etc and takes into account profile. Its about accurate as you are going to get and tends to be a little bit more stingy than most (I see this as good thing not a bad thing as in this case potentially under is way better than potential over). 2) additional active - this is when you aren't tracking activity however your HR is elevated (garmin HR is continuos whether tracking or not - when tracking it beefs up the power and adds more leds and runs tweaked algorithms for each specific activity to factor in naunces) compared to RHR - you can only see the split of tracked and additional on the watch for current day (its possible to work it out using app/web but not worth the effort - but will be the reason whey at end of day active calories doesn't match calories per tracked activity. Note the tracked activity summary calories includes resting + tracked active - you have to go to the stats section of the activity to see the split). Can run claorie reports in web, on app can see calorie detail and long term trends. If using MyFitnessPal it will pull in MFP goals and consumed calories and then show variation of burned vs consumed;. 2) notifications - yes you get all of them. Can set which apps can/cannot send through notifications. Basically shows any notification that hits your android phones notification bar. It there are any API actions built into the notification those tend to work too (i.e. with my Pixel 8 using the native google clock I can stop/snooze alarms ; messages you can reply too (note venu 3 / fenix 8 i.e. ones with mic & speaker; can include full replies for the rest its a quick reply (can customize whats on the list of quick replies). You get 3 profiles for notifications: general, activity and sleep - so you can set up how those work i.e. maybe want notification for general but none for activity and sleep - can set whether vibrates, beeps, both or none. Can set whether full messages comes up or more of a privacty with just the header. Music - control most phone media apps (does all the main ones), can do offline music - your own mp3 or if you have a sub for a service then offline playlits for spotify/amazon/deezer/youtube music (there are some other minor ones too - see connect iq store - can do app or web: [https://apps.garmin.com/](https://apps.garmin.com/) ”
