tldr; Aging Pro still called 'king of tablets' by some. ProMotion 120Hz pioneered but iPadOS 26 causes issues.

Best praise vs top criticism for Apple iPad Pro 10.5-inch (2017)
“I use tablets for both drawing and note taking. Depending on your budget dictates which tablet to recommend. Good stylus support however narrows the list. Apple and Samsung are the mainstream leaders. If you can afford their flagship devices I would go with either the iPad pro or the Samsung S10 series. The difference is the stylus. Technically the Apple pen is the best especially for drawing, but the Samsung S-Pen is very close in quality and capability. However you have to buy the apple pen separately, whereas Samsung gives you the S-Pen with most of their S series tablets. If the flagship devices are too expensive or if you just need someone basic, I would recommend either the Samsung S6 Lite (2024), or if you want better quality without breaking the bank the S9 FE. In terms of apps I'm a bit biased/unorthodox for strictly note taking because I also draw, but I use Concepts. It's vector based with an infinite canvas. If you need lines you can change the backdrop. It's used by many industries. If that's overkill, then maybe Samsung notes, one note, obsidian, etc. There's a lot of great basic note taking apps.”
“I think you’re going about this the wrong way. You decide which operating system to use when you’re looking at the lower end price range of various tablets. If you’re looking at an M4 iPad Pro, you should know without a doubt that iPadOS is for you. An iPad, an iPad Air and an iPad Pro do the exact same things. The iPad Pro may look better, be faster doing it, have more storage… but what they do is the same. The real decision at that price point is “Do I go with an iPad Air or an iPad Pro?” I’m not suggesting you avoid the IPad Pro, it’s a fantastic device. Android tablets, on the other hand, are always going to give you better value. Always. You’re going to get OLED screens for less money than an M4 iPad Pro. You’re going to get more storage at lower prices (for the more mainstream users). If you’re really willing to spend that much money on a tablet, ask yourself some basic questions first. What cellphone OS are you using? Working in the same ecosystem provides a fair number of benefits. You can use Android phones and iPads and vice-versa, but you’ll get a lot more functionality when you’re using an iPhone and an iPad than an IPhone and a Tab S9. I don’t think people focus on this enough. The integration benefits on the Apple side are enormous. On the Android side, it’s more fractured with all the different manufacturers. But if I owned a Samsung cellphone for example, without a doubt I’d be looking at a Samsung tablet. No question. There’s a lot of other things to compare, but this reply is already too long.”
