tldr; A14 chip at $300-349. 'Pretty good' for students but slower than Air. 60Hz display feels dated.

Best praise vs top criticism for Apple iPad (10th generation)
βThe other guy is correct. That being said, be prepared for the 10th gen to be pretty slow to use after about 5 years. The air would hold up much better in that regard. If you go 10th gen buy a nice keyboard case for itβ
βBoth of the tablets you mention are good. I've owned iPads since the first one came out, and I've never heard that they had bad batteries. All batteries diminish over time, regardless of who makes them. On the contrary, iPad batteries are excellent. The problem with iPads is simple. They are expensive, and they come with too little storage for their less expensive base models. So if price is a big factor, iPads are going to disappoint. That said, Samsung devices are generally less expensive and give better hardware features for the money. For example, I'm typing this response on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024 that I recently bought for US $210. It comes with 4GB RAM, 64 GB of storage, a 10.4" screen, and it includes the stylus, called the S-pen. It also has a microSD card if I want to increase the storage. It also has Samsung Notes, which is a very good note-taking app that only comes with Samsung devices. That's a great value for $210. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 9FE is a better device in almost every way. More memory (6GB), more storage space (128GB), better processor, larger screen (10.9"), higher refresh rate (90Hz) and it also comes with the S-pen as well as a fingerprint reader. Right now that goes for $442.00 So if you buy an iPad 10th Gen right now, it goes for $450 for the 256GB version (so you get more storage in that example). But you would still need to buy an Apple Pencil or another 3rd party option. So that's where it's more expensive. Apple Notes is included and is free. It's also a good note-taking app. Do not buy the 64 GB version. It's not enough storage and there's no ability to expand it. Both Samsung devices will come with 4 years of updates (The 9 FE is in year 2 already), and the iPad will typically get 6-7 years of updates (though Apple never officially says that). My 2nd Gen iPad Pro will no longer get an OS update this year, which would be the 7th year. So there's that to consider. From the software side, people get pretty animated about whether Apple or Android is better. I'll leave that to you to figure out because it's not worth the arguments that ensue.β
