Best praise vs top criticism for Zpacks Plex Solo
“You can buy a carbon pole which replaces trekking poles, it will still be lighter than a pole tent. Example: Zpacks Plex Solo (332g) + Durston Z-Flick (88g) = 420g”
“I got one in 2023. I hated mine and regretted buying it. I used a duplex for the PCT and quite liked it but am always looking to shave weight. I bought the plex solo to complete a section of the Sierra I skipped. It was so awkward to put up. I disliked having only one door. I unfortunately took it out for the first time on a trip where I got rained on every night for a week. Its setup is NOT dummy proof like the duplex’s is. Getting it setup properly so the rain would shed correctly and fit my pack inside was diabolically difficult and soooo frustrating to do while rain is falling on you. By the end of my three week trip, I’d got much better at correctly configuring but I just detested the thing by that point. I’ve since bought a duplex lite. I’m much happier with it. I’m using it on a long CDT LASH this summer. So far, so good. (It has not been tested in a bad storm yet. 😬) The offset duo looks pretty amazing. So does the duplex pro. One of these might be my next purchase when my duplex lite dies. TBD.”
