These days, there are rotomolded coolers that do a much better job than the ones that make your food do the backstroke. They have very thick walls that insulate a lot better than other kinds. Yeti is the most famous one, but there are several others that cost less. My advice: Get a cooler that’s rated to be bear-proof or bear-resistant, even if you’re camping where there are no bears. These coolers have tight-fitting lids and clasps that will keep warm air from getting inside, even if the cooler is on its side. They also won’t leak. Here’s my experience. After reading a lot of comparison testing, I bought a Lifetime brand rotomolded cooler at Walmart. I precooled it using the method in the YouTube link below and took it camping in the high desert. Temps got over 100 degrees. I had to leave the cooler in my car because the campsite was up a serious hill from where I could park. I’m sure that it got hotter than 100 inside the car. At the end of the weekend, I went home. My cooler had less than an inch of slush and the milk was still very cold. Another tip: While you’re buying a cooler at Walmart, put it in a shopping cart. Wheel the cart over to their kitchen section and get plastic bins, boxes, or trays to fit inside the cooler. That way you can be certain that they’ll fit. If you’re going out for a few weeks, then you may need a refrigerator. If you’re only camping for a weekend, then the Lifetime or one of the other rotomolded coolers should be fine. Here’s the pre-cooling method I used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5WsBdmIBoI&t=2s

Yes, I have a 35 qt. Yeti and it's heavy af. My brother has a similar-sized Lifetime that weighs about the same. On a multi-day spring desert camping trip a few years ago I couldn't tell a difference between the two in ice retention ability.
