Best praise vs top criticism for Topo Athletic Terraventure 4
“1. Injini Toe Socks (base layer) 2. Merino wool socks 3. Properly fitted shoes 4. A lacing method that holds your heel in place. The toe socks help wick away moisture and fit snuggly to prevent friction. The merino wool socks cushion the foot and continue to wick moisture away from the foot. There are all kinds of great shoes out there. You have to find the ones that fit your foot best, which means your heel isn't slipping up and down, the toe box isn't forcing the toes to rub together. I personally use mid-weight Darn Tough socks and non-waterproof trail runners. Gortex shoes are too hot and unbreathable for my feet. The shoes that work great for my feet are Altra Lone Peaks, and Topo Athletic Terraventures.”
“We have the same issue - the toe box being too low - bruising my big toe especially, despite there being plenty of length. For what it's worth, and to help avoid this problem, also consider the toe spring of the shoe, the more aggressive it is, the more it lifts your toes, hitting the top of the toe box. For example, the Topo Mountain Racer destroyed my toes, with its rocker/toe sweep. Whereas the Topo Terraventure has been brilliant - although I took out the insoles to create more room. I would be keen to try the Traverse. I am currently testing the Saucony Xodus Ultra 4.”
