Best praise vs top criticism for Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45
“Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45 - I’ve travelled with it as hand luggage for over 10 years. In portfolio mode it looks tiny. I use compression packs to make it look as thin as possible. Now one has ever weighed it. I keep it from 7-8kg usually. Of course never fill it up unless I need to check it in. I’ve only done that for a long trip when soft pack was mandatory and it was 15kg.”
“The Porter 46 is definitely a travel bag. It has a side handle and D-rings to attach a shoulder strap, but trust me, I wouldn't carry the bag that way. I have used the Tom Bihn [Absolute Shoulder Strap](https://www.tombihn.com/products/shoulder-straps?variant=16664457159) on the Aeronaut 45, and while the strap is excellent, carrying that large bag duffel style was not a pleasant experience. It's just too much weight swinging off of one shoulder. I even tried it sling style and the experience wasn't any better. After about 4 or 5 trips, I gave up on the bag. I would order the framesheet and the hip straps for the bag, but at this point I've move on to smaller and lighter bags when traveling.”
