tldr; Farpoint for different torsos. Same great travel pack, adjusted fit. One-bag proven.

Best praise vs top criticism for Osprey Fairview 40
“Just travel with a small bag and you’ll figure it out on the way. It is unique to you what you need. I’ve lugged around things recommended from this sub and other places and they were just dead weight in the end. Focus on high quality zips and a bag you actually like to open and close when it’s full of stuff. And read really really carefully which bags are approved for airlines. I’ve never ever had a problem with my osprey fairview 40L for example. It fits perfectly into overheads. It is a journey not a destination. There is no panel of judges other than your own frustration, exhaustion and stress if you’ve overpacked or your bag hurts to carry or it is impossible to find things easily.”
“When I tried it in a shop I compared it to my smaller backpack without hip belt (bookbag style). The Fairpoint with more load felt lighter and I was amazed at first and got it for me as well (actually my friend only intended to get one). On my actual trips it felt less comfortable in the long run. Looking back, it just felt more comfortable because of the hip belts, but the Fairpoint is deep+wide instead of high like trekking backpacks. This is because of carry on restrictions... Re: not molding your back: have you attached the load lifters? They detach with a buckle each when you cover the backpack system. They are on the shoulder straps: https://i.imgur.com/lX3Fi8o.jpg With them you can adjust if it is close to your back (steady) or further away (more ventilation)”
