Best praise vs top criticism for Todd Snyder Japanese Selvedge Denim
“Here's a top down list: Hats: Unless you are bald, ditch em unless it is 95, humid, and sunny, or it is cold and rainy/snowy. If you do wear a hat, stick to ball caps and flat caps. If you absolutely must have a hat with a brim to keep the summer sun off of you, make it a simple straw hat, and lean in to the summer look, with linen pants and shirt, and sandals or huaraches. Never ever ever wear a brimmed hat with a graphic t shirt unless you want people to think you play magic: the gathering and you have toxic ideas about women. If it gets really cold where you live and you need a hat for snowy winter days, consider a Stormy Kromer cap. Head hygiene: Get a haircut, trim the beard, and develop a skincare routine. You aren't getting younger. Moisturizer is your friend. If you have dandruff, get a bottle of Head and Shoulders, a bottle of Selsun Blue, and a bottle of Nizoral. Wash your hair with one of them every two days, rotating through the three of them. Follow with a good conditioner you like the smell of. Shirts: You should only own one or two graphic T shirts maximum. They should be for bands you have seen live. Otherwise your T shirts should be plain. Your style of t shirt is fairly up to you: crew neck with or without pocket, henley, or v neck is all up to you. Solid colors, black, grey, navy. White if you can keep them looking fresh. Get a couple of oxford cloth button downs, one in white, and one in blue. Get a linen shirt if it gets really hot where you live, and get a flannel shirt in either a plain color or a classic tartan like black watch or stuart if it gets cold where you live. Sweaters and sweatshirts: Get a cotton fisherman's sweater from LL Bean and a grey zip up hoodie from any number of places that make decent hoodies. You can also pick up a grey or navy thin v neck sweater if you need something a little more business-like. Outerwear: Get either an MA-1 Bomber Jacket or an M-65 Field Jacket. Rothco makes em super cheap. Go with black or navy for the bomber, and black or OD green for the field jacket. If you need something a bit more dressy, a navy or grey peacoat is a good choice. Pants: Dark indigo or black jeans, Levis or Wranglers are fine, they don't have to be super expensive designer jeans. A good pair of chinos in a dark khaki are useful. Grey wool or moleskin trousers are nice for cooler weather, as are brown courduroys. Linen pants are practically mandatory if it gets hot and humid where you live in the summer. Suits: Every man should own at least one suit. If you can afford two suits, get one in a medium to dark grey and one in navy. If you can, go ahead and get three piece suits. If you can afford only one suit, either grey or navy will work. My personal opinion would be get a grey one. You can wear brown shoes with navy suits, and you can wear brown shoes with a medium gray or light grey suit, but for dark grey suits black is your best bet. If you only own one pair of dres”
“It became the norm now. Rose anvil watching, designer hating, min-maxxing crowd has left this previously kinda niche sub and became mainstream already. And it’s still the exact same. Japanese denim, goodyear welted boots (back then it was clark cdb because gyw boots weren’t accessible) and whatever plain, watered down version of currently trending top. I blame danhakimi for this.”
