tldr; Entry-level boot that punches above its weight at $200. Great for work, dates, and suits. Resoleable after 4+ years.

Best praise vs top criticism for Thursday Boot Company Captain
“For goodyear welted construction footwear, 200 is the bare minimum. However the durability and repair ability of such shoes will outlast anything else and save you money in the long run. For 200$ or around I’d take a look at used or heavily discounted Allen Edmonds in the USA. For European, look at Meermin though the compromise is that they are made in China. For budget European look at the ones I sell, Carlos santos. It’s Portugal’s highest quality brand but even with the running discount it will be around 280-300$. I suppose you could get away with some Thursday boots but I don’t recommend them. If you want to learn more about leather or construction I’ve written some articles I can share”
“The 100-400 range has a ton of really bad quality brands so be careful. And yeah for sure I can’t help with suits, but shoes I know of. If you’re looking for good quality shoes around 200-400 take a look at these brands: Allen Edmonds ( ONLY ON SALE ) Meermin Grantstone Carmina Carlos Santos Parkhurst Boots Red Wing Boots Thursday Boots (controversial) They will absolutely be good enough quality and last as long as 800-1000 brands. Stay away from designers too. Shoemakers only lol.”
