+2 pts“i've owned both KEF and SVS speakers. KEF LS50 Meta and KEF LS60, which i currently run in two different systems, and SVS Ultra Towers and Ultra Bookshelves. I have not heard the new Evolution series from SVS. I prefer the KEF sound. The single point source uni-q, with midrange and tweeter coming from the same source, really does make the sound more "coherent". I owned and ran the Ultras for several years and they never really sounded coherent or linear to me. And the problem with most previous SVS speakers is they typically have something wonky going on at the x-over frequency. Now my understanding, based on stuff I've read, is what has typically separated the Kef Q series from the LS50 or R series is a lower quality crossover, meaning the old Q series also had some wonky stuff going on at the crossover. I'd be really interested to see if the new Q series corrects that. If so, they'll end up being one of the best deals in HT IMO. But based on my experience, if I had to purchase today, I'd go with the new KEF Q series. I also prefer their looks, particularly that white model, over the SVS offerings, but that is personal opinion. But if you could wait, it'd be nice to wait and see some measurements from an objective reviewer (like Erin's Audio Corner on YT) of the new Q series before purchasing.”
