Best praise vs top criticism for Stages Les Mills Virtual Bike
“I had similar issues when I started riding. I watched some videos on how best to adjust my bike, but the knee and quad issues continued. Finally I got a Team Wilpers Bike Fitting (I know many are also happy with Virtual Bike Fit) and made a huge difference. They first had me do some one-legged squats to check how I could balance, and looked at weight distribution through exercise and made some suggestion. Then, they looked at my cleats and made adjustments (I don't have enough knowledge to say whether they work with toe cages). Only after all that did they have me get on the bike. They viewed me, listened to my feedback and muscular challenges and found optimal settings. Since then, I must have participated in over ten power zone challenges, do the 90 and 120 min rides and can safely say that I have not been having the knee pain or muscular issues that I did when I began. Every body is different, and I don't know more about your scenario, but did want to make the suggestion to you, since it's what helped me in a similar situation. Good luck and wishing you many years of happy pain-free riding!”
“I was you when I ordered my bike 1.1.21 except I’d started working on my relationship with food 5 months earlier. I was obese and sedentary and was hoping the bike would get me excited to work out and keep me from quitting. My bike arrived mid-Feb 2021 and I was overwhelmed, sore and exhausted after every class. You Can Ride was too hard for me. It was this community on Reddit that saved me from failure. They told me I could filter classes by easiest (!!!), that the seat wouldn’t hurt after 2 weeks, take Crush Your Core to build strength to support me on the bike. When I was struggling to move from 20 min beginner classes to 30 min ones, they suggested Discover Your Power Zones, which is actual training. I ultimately got a bike fitting to save my knees and I haven’t stopped. Aim for riding 4-5 times a week. When you start 2 days off are important to give your muscles a chance to recover and rebuild. Weight loss begins in the kitchen. I lost 70 pounds over 18 months. I used Cronometer to log my food. It’s almost 5 years and I still log everything I eat. It keeps me honest and if I have ice cream for dinner it doesn’t lead to unhealthy behaviors because I can see that it isn’t the end of the world. I focus on nutritional goals. With PZ training, first DYPZ then the excellent #redditpz group, I got stronger. I’m in my late 60s now so building a lot of muscle isn’t easy but I strength train and I do core every day. Get a bike fitting. You can get one online from Virtual Bike Fitters or Team Wilpers. I’ve used both and the fitting I got from VBF changed my experience on the bike. I had meniscus repairs on both knees pre-Peloton and I’d avoid that. The $150 or so for the fitting is money well spent. You’ve got this!! Once the new bike seat discomfort subsides and you start feeling good on the bike, it’s addictive! Tap into this community of caring, knowledgeable Peloton users whenever you’re unsure or need to feel the hands on your back. ❤️”
