Best praise vs top criticism for Sony Bravia Theater Quad
“Highly dependant on the room, but that goes for any and all setups. Atmos isn't solely dependant on the upfiring speakers either, but work in conjunction with *all* of the speakers. Definitely not a gimmick. Not comparable to in-ceiling speakers, but it will 100% enhance the sound in a meaningful way. The quality of the mix itself and how it was mixed matters a tonne too. I'm using the Theatre Quads, and some streamed movies might have a sensation of stuff moving above. But when I play something like Dune on 4k blu-ray, it's **spot on**.”
“I think the only realistic problem with the quads is the price. Its priced at 2500$ and you **need** a subwoofer which brings the whole system at 3000$. For around 1500 you can build a 5.1.2 avr set up that will outpetform it. A home theater avr does not need towers and any decent 500$ + subwoofer will vastly outperform the SW5 If the quads + sw5 were priced around 1500$ then it would be a very considerable option as you would lose some performance for the extra simplicity and pay the same amount of a decent 5.1.2 set up.”
