Best praise vs top criticism for Skilhunt H04RC
“Howdy, thanks for stopping by our subreddit. I'm a veterinarian responsible for 90% of the surgeries our hospital does. We recently upgraded our surgical suite so I have brand new Startrol ceiling lights but before that I relied heavily on my headlamps for surgery. I still use them but in a complimentary role rather than a primary one. The headlamp I have ended up using the most and that now stays in the OR is the [Skilhunt H04rc](https://www.amazon.com/Flashlight-FloodLight-Waterproof-Headlight-Hands-free/dp/B088FRZLV2?th=1&psc=1) [(review here)](https://tgreviews.com/2021/12/19/grizzlys-skilhunt-h04-rc-review-best-on-the-market/#:~:text=When%20you%20enter%20mode,up%20through%20the%20modes.)with the high CRI neutral white emitter. I have an older version with the Samsung LH351D but you can now get it with the Nichia 519A. Both are good emitters though I never felt the need to upgrade from the Samsung. This is a single emitter flashlight but still puts out a good amount of lumens and Will stay bright long enough for most procedures. I had a buddy 3D print an attachment for it so it hangs right between my eyes like the Loupes. Apparently there is a headband model out there that rotates to the vertical position without the need for any modifications. I will get some information about that later tonight. This model comes with the ability to charge the battery through a magnetic USB but you can also remove the battery and charge it in a decided lithium ion charging bay [(like this one).](https://www.amazon.com/XTAR-VC4-Lithium-ion-Batteries-Authentic/dp/B010J9GE5G) Now, if I didn't have this light and I was buying one today, I would definitely get the upgraded [model H300](https://www.amazon.com/SKILHUNT-H300-Rechargeable-Hands-Free-Waterproof/dp/B0CH8F169B) [(review here).](https://tgreviews.com/2023/06/12/skilhunt-h300/) The other headlamp I used was the [DW4 from Emisar](https://intl-outdoor.com/emisar-dw4-right-angle-1-18650-work-light.html) (aka Hank). It ended up being more than I needed output wise but if it was my only source of light I would grab it instead of the Skilhunt. You can order a DW4 with the Nichia 519A emitters for good CRI and the output will be sufficient at or near the high end. I would suggest getting the boost driver so the output remains steady and doesn't wane during longer procedures. The DW4 does not have built in charging and you will need a dedicated charger for it. This one is Bright. The trade off of putting out a whole lot of light is the amount of heat generated. Not only will heat be the limiting factor but it will also be close to your forehead. When I used the DW4 at its brightest the heat became noticeable and uncomfortable after a short while. There's a lower setting that is not as bright but comfortable, about 75% of the way towards its maximum. I use the same headband for both lights, the [Skilhunt HB3.](https://www.killzoneflashlights.com/products/skilhunt-hb3-headlamp-headband) Feel free to direct message me if you want 👍🏼”
“Any recommendations on good head straps? My skilhunt h04 came with one but it's made for hardhats and doesn't feel good directly on scalp. I have another headlamp that is comfortable but the strap isn't removable.”
