Best praise vs top criticism for Scarpa Zodiac Plus GTX
“Scarpa zodiac has been my go to for ages. They’re a fantastic boot and waterproof”
“It depends. A lightweight synthetic is going to last a couple years, maybe three, before the membrane fails due to all the flexion. A stiffer boot will last a few years. Some boots, such as the Asolo Fugitive GTX and Scarpa Zodiac Plus GTX, will last a very, very long time. These are pretty stiff synthetic boots with durable uppers. They can both be resoled. A burly leather backpacking boot, such as the Asolo TPS 520 GV Evo, will likely remain waterproof for the life of the upper, and the life of the boots can be extended with resoles. The Zamberlan Vioz GTX is another example of this sort of boot. So, it just depends on the boot you get. Keep in mind that you'll need to protect the opening of the boot with Gore-Tex gaiters, otherwise water will make its way into your boots through your pant legs. You also want to avoid submerging the boot above the collar because water will enter through the opening.”
