Best praise vs top criticism for LG SK10Y
“It’s ranked pretty good on rtings at 8.1. I loved my lg sk10y and this seems to be a good upgrade from that. I do want all the speakers from the q990d tho *sigh”
“Absolutely. I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile either, but there is a reason I hate them. I can't recall the exact model I bought from LG... I think it was the LG SK10Y and I bought the rear speaker kit. Out of the box it sounded okay, I tweaked some of the settings but the performance was meh. I had a hard time telling if it was better than my old Samsung’s HW-H7500 which I got back in 2014. Then I played something in Dolby Atmos and that's when I realized the LG's faults. Actions scenes sounded loud, didn't pack much detail but it was the focal point of the sound bar... the problem was everything else felt muffled. Characters speaking during those scenes felt like they were almost whispering. I tried tweaking as many settings as possible, but I ended up having to turn off Dolby Atmos in order to get the sound bar to sound normal. It defeated the whole purpose of me upgrading my sound bar. The second time happened again. My brother (who is disabled and lives with me) use to have an old Samsung Blu-Ray Home Theater combo. It wasn't the best, but it did what he wanted. Well, it bit the bucket. Started having issues playing anything. So I thought I would surprise him with a new sound bar... and I stupidly went with LG again. This time I bought one with the rears that already came with the sound bar, I forget the model but I think it was a Best Buy exclusive. Legit, the exact same thing. I had to go into my brothers Apple TV and turn off Dolby Atmos.”
