I've had the same Humanscale Freedom chair for 7 years and it still looks brand new...and it has a 15 year warranty, so not really worried. Didn't have the same luck with Aeron (seat wore away within the first couple of years...known issue)...Knoll chair I had before that squeaked like hell and got "loose" over time (like within the first year)...they don't even make it anymore and it was their "main" chair for a few years. I loved my Humancsale chair so much, I started using their other products and appreciate their focus on ergonomics and quality no matter what product of theirs I purchase.

There's a snake in my chair! Can confirm it definitely is not normal and is nearly 100% likely to be a cylinder issue. This defect is covered under Humanscale's manufacturer warranty, would strongly recommend just taking it back for a refund/replacement. To my understanding Humanscale has been finding new suppliers for various parts post pandemic, perhaps this was a bad batch. Very unfortunate experience.
