tldr; The OG mesh chair. Mesh seat is divisive - great for heat, bad for cross-legged sitters. Size matters: B for most, C for 6'+.

Best praise vs top criticism for Herman Miller Aeron
“Differences are mainly: Better build quality: these $100 chairs are meant to make it through the 30 day Amazon return window and after that it’s just bonus time. It’s cheap plastic, it’s cheap manufacturing and way less QA. The 1000 dollar chairs have models in perfect shape that have been kicking around for 30+ years. Better research and design: the $100 chairs are made by a factory that considers two things: whether it LOOKS comfortable, and how cheap the parts can be produced. The $1000 chairs have R&D teams that spend their time figuring out how to make the chairs ergonomic and last. Functionality: some of the cheaper chairs have more functionality but for the most part they’ll go up and down and tilt lock. The more expensive chairs will have tilt limiters or tilt angle lock, seat depth adjustments, 4D armrests, lumbar height and depth adjustments. This one there is more nuance to, but in general the really cheap chairs you are going to lose out on some of those functions. Some chairs, like the Herman Miller Aeron and Leap v2 also benefit from a healthy used market, so you maintain a bit of value there. AND they are popular enough to have aftermarket part replacements.”
“Hated my Aeron also. You might want to sit in one of those Leap v2 I see in background. That is what I use today and way better back support than Gesture. Personally I would not do leather in work chair, too hot for me.”
