“Read about Elimination Comminication! Offer the potty as often as you can/is comfortable for your family routine. For us it was first thing up on waking up in the AM or from nap, after meals and before bath. Did this starting around 9 months and we did disposable diapers in between but once we were having lots of successes on the potty for we started putting her in the Tiny Undies Trainer Pants (14ish months). That helped her feel more wetness when she peed and she was most of the way there. Around 17 months we did a few days where we just left her without bottoms on and she learned really quick. We still do disposable diapers for nap, overnight and long car rides. But otherwise she was fully potty trained at 17ish months. Good for you for reading your kids cues and offering them the chance to try! I think “waiting for readiness” is kind of silly! From a philosophical standpoint… why are we not at least offering babies/young toddlers the opportunity to use the potty? It’s so crazy to me that we force them to soil themselves instead of just offering an alternative (which is much more pleasant and hygienic for all involved). I understand that not all kids will be ready to fully transition out of diapers at a young age but every baby can be practicing these skills from a young age with the expectation that they won’t get it right every time.”
