“As far as reels go, Shimano and Daiwa command a premium price, but are generally excellent performers and have a reputation for being extremely reliable long term. I won a $200 Cabela's gift card at a raffle at work and picked up a Daiwa Procyon MQ. It's only a 1000 size reel (I do a lot of finesse fishing for Walleye and Perch), and it was christened with a solid 10lb Pike and a half dozen 20+ inch walleye last weekend. I'm extremely impressed with it so far. My 10 year old Daiwa Tatula and 12 year old Shimano Stradic have hauled in hundreds of walleye, pike and perch over the years. My dad finally replaced his 25 year old Shimano level-wind with a new model last year, and his old one still gets used when we bring people with us.
