Best praise vs top criticism for Camp Chef XXL Pro
“Hi, I've had a YS640S and a Camp Chef XXL Pro. I sold my YS640S to gain space on the back deck, since it's the size of a Kia, and I was super excited to try out the smoke box on the CC. The XXL Pro does a decent job cooking. There is good smoke flavor from the applewood chunks that I've been using, but not as intense as hickory, which I'll try next. But I miss the YS640S dearly. The construction of the Camp Chef is laughable compared to the Yoder. The Yoder's Fireboard app and temp controls vs. Camp Chef's proprietary setup is not really a competition either. Neither the Yoder nor the Camp Chef put out much smoke flavor as my first smoker, a Weber Smokey Mountain. If I had to do this over again, I would buy a YS480S and be done.”
“I would not agree with that statement, but I have just now run out of apple chunks. I'll try hickory next to see if the flavor is more pronounced, but I was not impressed with apple chunks. The Yoder basically matched it flavor-wise. And far outdid it in every other category except price. I won't buy another Camp Chef smoker, I do know that. I don't hate the XXL Pro, but it has not yet lived up to expectations. We'll see once I dig into some hickory.”
