Best praise vs top criticism for AIRCARE MA1201
“The two I can recommend from ownership are the Aircare MA1201 and the Aircare Space Saver. I currently use the version of the latter with knobs. If I would buy it again I would try the version with buttons because the knob controls are flaky enough to be annoying (don't always respond to input) and it's not a case of my particular unit because I asked Aircare to replace the power head and the new one had the same problem. That's my general critique of the Aircare products. Most could be improved, but relative to competition they are among the best and so I think they have little incentive to fix some of the smaller issues. They do have responsive support in my experience, and many of their products are made in the US, with US-based support. I generally recommend over-buying on stated square footage coverage - these numbers are greatly inflated if your situation is winter dryness + use of HVAC heat. That said, if you want to try a smaller unit I would recommend the Honeywell HCM-350. It's a proven design whose main failing is it lacks a humidistat, but since its max output is still relatively low there's not much risk of over-humidifying (and in any event if you own a humidifier you should also buy a separate hygrometer). I don't have person experience with the Honeywell but I've thoroughly researched it. Home Depot is my recommended vendor, excellent return policy and handling.”
