Best praise vs top criticism for Aprilaire 800
“I have an Aprilaire 800 for my 2500 . sq ft house, which I understand to be overkill, but I really don’t like dry air for skin/allergy reasons. Caveat: my humidistat is in the attic and I don’t have precise control over when it goes on - I just put it to max and it turns on enough that things are much more comfortable. 1. From what I understand, one 800 will be enough for a well-sealed house. You could always add a second one later. 2. It’s not 24/7, I think it checks the humidity every hour and then runs for ~5-10 minutes, if needed. 3. Not sure, but I think you’d be okay if you kept the humidity at reasonable levels. The main drawbacks to me are just financial - cost of installation plus the monthly electricity use. Otherwise, it’s so much better than having a bunch of little units that I was constantly refilling and knocking over.”
