If you really have five handicap, and consistently can break 80 most courses, you can tell the difference between a ball that doesn’t spin, and a bowl that spins. You can tell distance off the tee and side spin tendencies. My handicap is a little better than yours, but I’m also 63 years old and my swing speed has dropped. "I have an old set of Mizuno irons, probably more than 10 years old now. I recently bought "new" 2nd hand wedges, a set of Cleaveland Rtx Zipcore's. From the first round I played with them I was blown away how big a difference "new" wedges made. For the first time I felt a bit of confidence hitting approach shots with anything higher lofted than a PW. I did have to Google my PW loft, which is 46°, so I decided on a 50,54 and 58 wedge, my old wedges were 52,56,60 and I think the better grouping also helps. One thing I didn't even know when I bought the Zipcores was that they are the same length shafts. My mind was blown when I played them for the first time. Approach shots feel so much better. My old wedges got shorter as the loft increased, and that was so uncomfortable for me bending low to the ball for approach shots. I would love a new set of irons, heck if I had the dough I probably would buy new irons, but I need to get better at more consistent ball striking. For me, then it would justify the purchase more. But you do you, just thought I would share my recent wedge experience."

"I was like you, went from players cavity mizuno jpx 921 tour. Switched to 2024 Wilson Staff Model blades. Tested against the srixon z forged and wilson won no contest. My favorite iron now ever probably. Gained my half club of distance back AND more spin. Also stellar looking blades."

"The only problem with the Staff Model blades is they have probably the most offset of any modern blade. Certainly a lot more than the new Mizuno Pro S-1s or last year's MP241s. I struggle with a left miss and too much offset makes that unbearable."

"I'm a big believer that iron category choice should be determined by how you swing the club and not handicap. Companies simply market GI irons to high handicappers because they tend to swing the club worse and that's the easiest way to do it. I've always had a decent iron swing and no trouble getting the ball up in the air, so after starting with a set of used Sub70 699s I got fit into Srixon ZX7s as a 30 index. I got down to 24 then 16 my first two years with them. I'm a big skeptic of iron forgiveness and I think the main difference between iron categories is just what ball flight you get for various swing deliveries. If you swing relatively fast with good shaft lean, players clubs with closer to traditional loft should be fine. If you swing relatively fast but with less shaft lean you might be better with more aggressive lofts on players distance irons. If you swing relatively slow and/or struggle to get the ball in the air, a GI iron is more likely to give you good flight. To actually answer your question, if someone goes from a swing that works with GI irons and learns to swing faster with better shaft lean, there's a decent chance they'd see better flight from more traditional players clubs."

"I’ll always love the Sun Mountain C130 as it’s a great cart bag. My dad and I each had one that lasted like 10-15 years of heavy use. Recently replaced with a Titleist Hybrid bag which gave me a good mix of storage, lighter, and a stand. The double strap also disconnects so it’s not in the way."

I spent weeks trying to decide on a new cart bag and also spent days deciding between SLC-130 versus 2024 T-Lock , I went with the T-Lock because many brands have that same top type of the SLC-130 it’s very common but have found many complaints that those rubber tops start folding and ripping apart and I saw that complaint from every brand that uses that same top. "Sun Mountain C130 14-way. With XL’s There are a few slots that require a very slight push to get the grip end thru, but they fit nicely. Probably some limited premature wear as a result but I’m not concerned about it. Anything less than XL probably no issue with this bag. I need to find a Sunday bag that works for like 5 or 6 clubs and a putter though. The huge grips really become a problem in Sunday bags"

"If you want to buy blades, don’t let the internet stop you but I’d be more likely to look at a forged cavity back before going full blade. Mizuno 243s or whatever the new version is. A lot of tour guys don’t even play a full set of blades these days."

"Ping Anser putter from the late 70’s. Found at a pawn shop about 25 years ago for $3.99. Have only regrouped it once. Patina, the soft face, some character rust in the shaft. My absolute favorite club. Close second is an Adam’s Golf Tom Watson 60* lob wedge. The best feeling wedge I’ve ever used. The only club I am always 100% with. Chips, flops, backspin when needed. I love that thing."

"Hi. Been through this. Blades - I don't think anyone should go to a straight blade. Talking P-7TW, Mizuno Pro 241, just absolutely sexy ass butter knives. Rare exception if you are super pure +3 or better that has a ton of time to hit the range, then maybe. I think the players cavity is what we're talking about here. Think JPX Tour, Pro 243, P-7CB (770s are a tweener here and go up another level in my opinion). Titleist T100 (I feel 620CB goes opposite of 770 and is tweener there). Other brands certainly apply here. I think this is the broadest category of irons and where most guys who play 2x or more a week should be. Turf interaction is great here. Practicing over time will improve strikes. You don't get the fliers you do on other GI clubs. You see 10hcp all the way to tour guys here. I'm personally at JPX Tour, but I'm just a random idiot. Players distance is probably need 5. 770, probably T150 all apply here. Basically for the guys swinging a little slower that need help with distance. You aren't selling out completely for distance, but you do get some help. Anyway, switch when you notice you start hitting over greens. You got a p790 or whatever and start consistently air mailing your yardage by 15-20yards, that's a good time. Going smaller is all about distance control on fliers. If you never notice it, or you course doesn't heavily penalize going long, you may not need to ever."

"I’ve had the top of the line bushnell, I’ve had the $50 Amazon ones. Minimal difference in performance, maybe one second difference in lock, +\1 yard in accuracy, and a premium vs cheap feel which doesn’t really matter, it’s a tool. I prefer the battery vs the usb charged ones. I’d recommend either a cheaper new one or a used premium one which won’t be that much more expensive, not like these things degrade over time assuming the lens hasn’t been fucked up. I went with a used bushnell V6, was like $150 on eBay. And don’t buy a black one if you’re going to magnet it onto the cart, or get a case if so."

"I can't really comment on temu rangefinders but I did own a Callaway 300 pro for a season. At $200 it would constantly struggle to figure out the exact distance. Depending on your skill level 5-10 yards makes all the difference. I lost that rangefinder and ended up splurging on the Bushnell V6 shift. So far it's 100% accurate on reads and the sight picture is way nicer. Is it worth $400? Idk probably not lol."

"It was an awesome experience. So far, the best fitting I have done. That King Tour with the DG Tour X100 with that added length was so good. Numbers were so tight that even my heel/toe strikes did not deviate much."
