Best praise vs top criticism for Viofo A119 Mini
“I’ve always used the Viofo dash cams, high quality video, the starvis sensor give you great night time footage too. It has a capacitor instead of a battery which makes it great for hotter temperatures, not sure if it helps with cold temps though. The A119 mini 2 is often on sale on Amazon for around $100.”
“I used DOD dash cam's back in the day (LS430W, LS360W, LS460W) being very happy with them although felt they were somewhat on the expensive side. At some point though the company (DOD) seemed to be becoming stalemated and that is when I began looking / considering alternative dash cam brands, when and if the time came to retire our DOD's. Well, after several years of reliable use (5ish) I retired them all for two of each, RSC Nano's and Viofo A119 V3's, dash cams... Still own the DOD's and they still function. The RSC Nano's had WiFi and the Viofo's were a bump up in resolution to 2K. Very happy with them too as all four have had similar reliability to my DOD's. Actually, even though they are now into their fifth year still using my Viofo A119 V3's. Getting back to DOD. The GS980D use a OmniVison OS08A10 image sensor for the main camera, not familiar with that sensor yet doubting it comes close to riveling the 4K Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 8MP Sensor released in 2023. And considering the company presence appears to have kinda faded quite a bit, I mean it's literally been 7-8 years since I've seen a DOD dash cam pop up in any anything like searches, reviews, etc. Shoot, at one point there was Canadian DOD site but that now appears long gone. So yeah for me DOD has become a "has been" of sorts otherwise they'd be one of the players in the dash cam game, we ain't seeing it. As for recommendation... I'm somewhat partial to the Viofo and 70mai brans, at this point and time. For those somewhat budget minded just wanting a front facing, the A119 Mini 2 comes to mind, or the 70mai M500 w/built-in storage (32/64/128). For a dual channel setup, the Viofo A139 Pro or A229 PRO are good picks. The 70mai A810 is another decent 2-ch dash cam. Keep in mind the Viofo's use a super capacitor whereas the 70mai's have a physical battery, so if you are in a place temperatures get quite hot may want to stay away from the 70mai brand.”
