“I’m following up on my last post about a visit to Rolling Dub Trio in Tokyo with another post about my trip to see Addict Clothes. I went to two of Addict’s stores, one in Tokyo and the other in Nagoya. The one in Nagoya also serves as a small outpost for Rolling Dub Trio. Founder Satoshi Ishijima started his brand from his love of vintage British motorcycles and motorcycle clothing. Primarily known for leather jackets, he began branching out to boots in the 2010s. Stitchdown has a great interview with Ishijima san and shop tour on YouTube. *Tokyo* The Tokyo flagship shop is a bit tricky to visit. It is in the far east part of Shinjuku, which is a good walk from the closest train stations. They also have limited operating hours, being open 12-7 p.m. on Fridays and Sundays only. Once you get there, the space is well worth visiting, as they sell not only leather jackets, apparel, and boots but also vintage pre-1950s British motorcycles. Skilled mechanics work in the back to restore the rare vehicles to operating condition. When I went, they had a good selection of their service boots and horsehide side-zip western boots. Unfortunately, they did not have engineer boots, as those are their most popular sellers. The shop staff was great, and he proudly showed me his worn Addict x Rolling Dub Trio Steerhide Caspers from 2022, which were recently re-released this year and sold exclusively in Nagoya. I didn’t end up getting anything, as I was hoping to try on the engineers, but it's still a great spot to stop by and check out if you're in Tokyo. I loved the Japan meets British heritage décor. *Nagoya* The Addict Clothes in Nagoya is much smaller than the one in Tokyo. It’s on the outskirts of the city center, but at least it has more normal operating hours: 12-7 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. 😊 It has much more limited stock in boots, with only its service boots available. However, the Nagoya shop is unique because it also serves as a satellite outpost for Rolling Dub Trio. Addict and Rolling Dub Trio have collaborated frequently over the years on jackets and boots. The shop staff told me the aforementioned Addict x Rolling Dub Trio Caspers, which were released this year, sold out in 20 minutes. The Rolling Dub Trio section was small, with a limited selection of leather goods and models for exhibition purposes only. They follow the same release scheme as Rolling Dub Trio: in-store first, followed by online with any leftover inventory. However, the Nagoya shop has a standalone website, separate from the main RDT site. They have their own inventory, so it's always worth checking them out when there’s a release. Nagoya tends to be an overlooked city for tourists (I was there for work myself), but it has good vibes (and fried chicken). There are also other good heritage-style shops, like Skooter, Harlem, and Black Sign (they often collaborate with Clinch).”
“Handsewing is one of the worst things ever. I've only done wallets but I plan on handsewing my soles when I resole my Nicks so I can reuse the same holes. That's a crazy SPI my hands would give out. If I may give some unsolicited advice you could shape your heels by hitting the sides with a hammer after lasting. By moving the counter material away from the bottom and more to the middle, you can get a more uniform circular heel instead of the bell-like shape you have now. IMO it's more aesthetically pleasing but something like cowboy or engineer boots typically have a bell shape while service boots/loggers have a more rounded, circular shape.”
