tldr; Popular 3-channel cam. Excellent heat performance and video quality. Great for rideshare/taxi with cabin cam.

Best praise vs top criticism for Vantrue N4
“I’m in Phoenix and have a VanTrue N4. I’ve only had it a few months so I haven’t been able to torture it yet but the main reason I got it (besides that I got a really good deal on it lol) was because it doesn’t have a battery but uses a capacitor instead. A model with a capacitor is a must for extreme heat from what I’ve read.”
“I used to have the n4 and it died on me after 2 years in the Texas heat. I was looking at the n4 pro to upgrade it as that one offers 4k. I ended up getting the a229 pro 3ch instead. I opted for the a229 because with the n4 pro even though the main camera is 4k the other 2 are 1080p. With the a229 you get 4k front, 2k rear, 1080p inside. I will note a difference with the cameras is that with the n4 the front camera and the inside cam are integrated into the same unit. In the a229 you get individual cameras for each. That might be a good or bad thing depending on your preference. Another thing I noticed with viofo is that you can buy each camera separately so if one dies you might be able to replace only that one and not have to spend the full amount for the set again. You would need someone who's had to do that to verify though since mine are new and I haven't had issues yet.”
