Best praise vs top criticism for Trek Domane SL 5
“Get the Caledonia if you want a more sporty snappy handling endurance bike with a max tire clearance of about 34mm. It'll feel very slightly more aggressive than your domane and the SL5, but it's still an endurance geometry. Get the Domane if you want a more relaxed geometry, and a bike that can do some off-road riding. it's less sporty than the caledonia. Max tire clearance of 40mm so you can take it on some light gravel trails with wider tires. Might even say it's more comfortable both in terms of frame design and geometry. The frame has an isospeed seat tube that allows some more flex in the rear. Geometry wise, it's also more upright and slightly more relaxed. It's basically an all-out endurance bike, meant for long days in the saddle.”
“Rode a single speed for years commuting to work and last summer wanted to take cycling a little more serious. Decided on a Trek Domane, rode it recreationally all summer but hated how clunky and slow it felt so now I’m looking to upgrade. Plan to do a few triathlons this summer with recreational riding mixed in. Looked at a few endurance bikes but worry it will feel sluggish like the Domane.”
