Best praise vs top criticism for Tortuga Travel Backpack
“A few months ago I posted here looking for advice about a travel backpack for scuba diving gear. My goal was to have a backpack-style that I can easily check in on flights. I got a Farpoint 80 and so far it’s been quite suitable. I fit a full set of dive gear in there (fins, BCD, regs, wetsuit jacket), a pair of gym shoes, and some other things like toiletries and liquids. The Tortuga Setout is my carryon and has all the fragile stuff and most of my clothes. I appreciate that the Farpoint is comfortable as backpack. The hip belt makes it comfortable for longer walks. Being able to zip-up the hip belt and straps to protect them during transport on planes is great. It arrived at my destination pretty much unscathed. I’d say this is about the minimum bag size for a full set of scuba gear. A 90L would probably have been perfect so I could get more clothes in there.”
“I’ll comment a mix of thought between brands or specific bags Overrated: - Nomatic as a brand is grossly overrated by media in my opinion. -Aer TP3 too. Though their fans are probably gonna come for me. Great design, materials, and aesthetic, BUT overbuilt. Way too much organization and weight. - I would probably say the same with Peak Designs travel backpack. for the average traveler, it’s overrated. For photographers, it’s probably justified. - Tom Bihn, just because I think they are not great looking and grossly overpriced. Underrated: - Tortuga because I am a fan of the build quality and looks, but not many people talk about them.”
