+2 pts“:D Have to admit, I only have either older, smooth Lodge, or newer higher-end pieces: Smithy and Stargazer. None of my stuff ever needs chain mail, but rough new Lodge def might. If I was shopping for a just-starting young adult I'd see what I could find on eBay, which is where I got my ultra-smooth three-notch Lodge #8. I think the cost was $40 including shipping, about 5-6 years ago. Could be the market has changed though. If you go the new Lodge route, I suspect chain mail and metal utensils that you're willing to be aggressive with will be essential. But if you go stainless steel, I still don't see a need for a wire brush. That would be a last resort after a totally torched cook, only on cookware I didn't really care about, and would come well after BKF, followed by an oven cleaner soak. The thought of deep gouges into my cookware gives me the creeps.”
