Best praise vs top criticism for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100
“Another option to consider would be something like a Ricoh GRIII or GRIIIx. Fixed focal length, but comparable size to the RX100 and a very nice APS-C sensor and lens combo. It’s my go to pocket camera. Honestly though, I would try getting a prime or zoom pancake lens for your a6500 first. Will make it way smaller and still give better image quality than an RX100.”
“I'm trying to determine whether to save the money and just get body only and the kit lens is truly a waste of money. Many insist it isn't (especially on YouTube, for what that's worth, and appear to get far more mileage out of it than I can although who knows what is really being done in post, etc.) I wanted to get the ZV-e10 because it's such a small footprint and capable of doing many things well. It's more than the a6400 without a viewfinder (and has a USB C so I don't need extra cables, etc.) It's essentially my replacement to the RX100 I used to have that is far more capable. The Canon Kit lens I received with the m100 I had was better performing, so I'm surprised the Sony 16-50mm is so soft. The Kit lens sells for about $75-90 - but I thought it would be at least as good as the cheap Chinese lenses I see selling for even less. So I wonder, is it possible that i just have a terrible copy? The Sony tech saw two photos and said it's normal. Hard to believe.”
