+57 pts“The early versions of Sony (first and second gen a7) were very enticing to many users: - they were tiny compared to bulky dslrs, like half the size and weight - canon at the time had shit sensors with lousy dynamic range. But you could buy a sony body, mount all your canon lenses and have decent af. There was no lens switching cost and many canon shooters moved over because of how easy it was - they were universal bodies that could mount any lens ever made on them because it had the shortest flange distance - they were early out of the gate with advanced AI based AF like eye detection, this was a game changer Sony made some missteps but continued to push on AF, sensor tech (stacked and now global shutter), open lens mounts, video, clear product lineup, better lens design, shortened product cycle (new model every 2 years), better marketing with influencers. They had a clear technology lead which contributed to image quality and quality of life inprovements for photographers. basically once Sony got the ball rolling they kept pushing and it snowballed”

+1 pts“I saw this on a very used and beat up A7 that I was trying out (thankfully I never bought it). The lens would slide around quite a bit. I had never seen an A7 before so I thought that it was OK. But actually it's not normal. However this was a known issue due to heavy use on the original A7 which has a mount partially made of plastic. I though they had fixed it on newer bodies. I'm guessing a fall could also damage the mount and make it loose.”
