Best praise vs top criticism for Redtiger F7N
“I have only had one dash cam so far coming up on two years so I can't compare it directly to anything else from personal use. But what I have is the RedTiger F7N which is down around $120 or $130 on Amazon (they have a range of somewhat different models but a lot of them are in that price range) and I have been quite happy with it. $300 was definitely not in my budget. I used it with the supplied power cord for a year and nine months and just recently installed the hardwire kit for parking mode after I got hit while parked in a parking lot. It's advertised as 4K in the front but the reviews say it's not really a true 4K. However I don't have any complaints with it. My picture quality is good, I can read license plates, etc. My particular model has a rear camera that is mountable outside and weatherproof and that's how I have it mounted and I have a really good view that I appreciate. It's a regular HD resolution but again It seems decent to me for what it does. Mine has displays for the time, the GPS position, the miles per hour. When I play it back with the red tiger computer app, which seems to be a customization of the generic "GPS Player" that I used to use, you can watch the front and rear view simultaneously or you can focus only on the front view or the rear view and you can blow either one up to a full screen. It also has a place to show a map of your route that follows along with the video. Sometimes even though the GPS information is on the video it doesn't show on the map and I'm not quite sure why but I don't think it's the camera. The phone app connects via Wi-Fi but of course is not on when the camera is not on so it's really just for administration and handling videos. The range is about 8 ft so it's designed for you to be sitting in your car doing that (while parked). You can change some of the phone settings through the Wi-Fi app, you can watch the camera views although that would be best if you were a passenger in the car, and you can play and download videos. The Wi-Fi speed isn't super high so it's fairly slow to download videos that way and the most efficient way is just to take out the card and stick it in your computer or take the whole camera and attach it to your computer with a USB cable. Then it acts just like a USB drive. I used to use a generic phone app called uCam but recently downloaded the RedTiger specific app and it's definitely more sophisticated. I give it pretty much a thumbs up but I don't expect it to perform miracles. Most cameras with apps are the same way -- they are just for local administration. The camera also has lots of customizable settings, which is nice.”
