I, too, was looking for another suspended mesh backpanel pack, and thought the new Bonfus was it until I saw the cheap hip belt tightener. It’s a side pull vs. a forward pull, which I can NEVER get dialed in as well as a forward pull, like what’s found on a Durston, Osprey, etc.

For the refuges, I would buy the 38L, anything larger is just too large. When you buy (or already have) ultralight and compact gear for the big three (tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag), I would definitely get the 38L, otherwise the 48L. I think the Osprey is a little on the heavy side. I use a Berghaus Arete 35 for nearly ten years now, it is 850 gram. There are much lighter options nowadays, but make sure they are durable and comfortable. I bought the Arete because of the Alpine style trips I did (rope, harnass, carabiners, ice axe, crampons) and I wanted a compact pack that does not restrict my movements too much and the less I can pack into it, the less weight I carry. There are many packs of this size and weight of all kind of manufacturers.
