Best praise vs top criticism for NIXY Newport G5
“I've been really happy with keen Newport h2 sandals. Really good soles and work in and out of water. I've even used them for a 3+ hour hike. Only issue is getting my heel into them is a bit tricky. ”
“My usual Newport launch location is the [Newport Aquatic Center](https://newportaquaticcenter.com/). You don't have to be a member to park on the sand (I'm not, and it's free!). No water source for cleaning, you'll need to bring your own. They rent SUPs and kayaks there as well, if you want to bring a friend. The place gets REALLY crowded on the weekends/holidays in summer. I go early to get a good spot to inflate. Be sure and check the website to make sure there's no water event the day you want to go. There aren't many, but they do have crew/dragon boat races on occasion. Public bathrooms ... leave something to be desired. I avoid them unless it's absolutely necessary. * Go left and you head into the Back Bay. It's like a Who's Who of endangered waterfowl back there! Restricted areas are clearly marked. Water is calm, no motored boats allowed back there. And much of it is very shallow (even without the drought). * Go right and you can go around Lido and/or Balboa Islands. Boats in the Harbor are restricted to 5mph. Most are pretty good about adhering to it. The Catalina Ferry leaves from here as well. Not open ocean, but you can go out if you ever feel ready. Dana Point I go to [Baby Beach](https://visitdanapoint.com/what-to-do/baby-beach/), the sand is sooooo soft! Again with laps around the harbor. You can also go out and do open ocean from there should you choose to do so. Boats are restricted to 5mph until they hit the ocean. SUPs/kayaks are rented there as well. Parking is free, but the place is a ZOO by mid-morning on the weekends/holidays. They do have racks and a faucet for cleaning your board (BYOB--Bring Your Own Bucket). Check the schedules at Doheny Beach (right down the street. Popular place for surfing competitions and other events. And if there's an event, pass it up as traffic/parking will be a nightmare. There's a nice boardwalk with restaurants if you want a snack afterwards. There are a couple of MeetUp groups you might be interested in: * Paddle LA and OC * Kaba Nui Paddle Crew”
