Best praise vs top criticism for Leatherman FREE T4
“I purchased a Roxon S803E Flash Elite on sale (MSRP $43). I took out the pliers and put the blade side back together. I asked Roxon for a replacement Flex pocket clip, which they sent free with $3 shipping. This clip is shorter than the OEM clip, so as not to interfere with the tool deployment button. I really like the D2 blade. It’s 2.8” long, so larger than the Leatherman Free T4, Roxon KS2E, and Roxon Flex blades. Second only in blade length to the Leatherman Free K2, but with much edge retention. The “Roxon Free Elite” weighs less than all of those tools. The “Roxon Free Elite” is very ergonomic. There are no hotspots. The blade opens easily one-handed, and you can deploy the tools from underneath with the tool in the same orientation as you would deploy the blade. There is no manipulation or change of position required. Of all the “Free” one-handed tools I own, this one is the easiest to operate. That said, this tool only works as intended for right-handers. The toolset is great. You’ve got a 3D Phillips with crosscut file, a flat head with wire stripping notches, a very sharp and pointy awl and a bottle/can opener with a small flat head. All in-line. All locking. All one-handed. That medium flat head/wire stripper is missing on the KS2 Elite. On the back side, I have found two things that fit. First, the Leatherman Signal whistle/ferro rod drops in perfectly and retains. This is available in multiple colors from Leatherman for $8. Second, the Roxon Flex pen/pin/tweezers tool fits on the cross bar. It only opens partially, but that’s all you need to access those tools. The pen/pin/tweezers tool is available for $5 from Roxon.”
“Roxon. Half the price, more function. It’s an upgraded version of Swiss army huntsman but lesser quality build (feels more flimsy). Theres a reason the t4 isn’t that popular, leatherman hasn’t mastered the sak style multitool yet”
