Let's compare these two models! Since I got Wave+ for my birthday, it stayed unused due to some major flaws that I found out while trying it, so I wanted to get something more sturdy and better packed with vital tools that I need in my trade. 1. Pouches - I really like both of them, the leather one is more "formal", but for work I always choose other one. Point for L (Leatherman). 2. Overall design and size - since Vic is a bit bigger, it feels almost perfect in hand, and I personally prefer this slight design, and also the upper "notch" between handles helps with much easier pliers deployment. Point for V (Victorinox). 3. Overall pliers look. No points in this category. 4. Leatherman have two knives - basic blade and serrated knife. Also you can mod it by adding thumb stud for easier opening. One hand opening is a big plus. Vic combined serrated and basic blade, you have to open it manually, but the sharpness is out of this world. So point for both V/L. 5. Scissors - quite fine addition to both tools, but somehow small and not really useful sometimes, but Vic scissors is much sturdier and sharper. Point for V. 6. This was meant to be the last photo with "leftover" tools, but I uploaded it here, so let's go. Wave+ with completely funny sunglasses screwdriver which is total nonsense versus awl with hook and cable stripper with package opener and chisel end. Maybe unfair, but two points for V. 7. Opening system - the liner lock is much more intuitive than Victorinox system, but both works well. Point for L. 8. Wire cutters - exchangeable vs fixed, while the Victorinox ones is much more powerful and sharper, the exchangeable feature is a must. Point for L. 9. Files - Wave offers both diamond and wood file, but the wood file is kinda soft and shallow etched. Victorinox offers one and two directional files, which are really deep etched and sharp, and on the edge there's a metal cutter which really works compared to Wave. Point for V. 10. Can opener - Wave offers wire stripper which is completely dull, and Victorinox offers small screwdriver at the top and the bevel is sharpened. Still unnecessary for me, but point for V. 11. Phillips screwdriver - Obvious point for V without any futher explanation. Much better handling and more torque. Get yourself a proper EDC screwdriver/ratchet and forget 2D bits and things. 12. Flat screwdriver / pry bar - Wave is packed with just one flat screwdriver which can be used as a pry bar unless applying too much force and breaking it, while Vic offers small/big screwdriver and decent bottle opener. This tool is widest in the pack, so you can abuse it. Point for V. 13. Saws - both are great, but the Vic one is sharpened with more "attack" on the teeth, so the V gets the final point. Result: Leatherman got 4 points, and Victorinox got 10 points (or 9 if you don't count double point in picture six). Since I do cladding and insulation job as my primary job, and refractory insulation and brick laying as my secondary job, and chimney manufacturing and installation as my third/side job, I need some good multitool with me all the time. I tried to carry Wave+, but it's just not for me, it doesn't offer all the things that I need. A lot of time someone break our extension cords and I need quick fixing it, so I need wire stripper. I'm nit professional electrician, so I'm not going to buy Knipex stripper for like $50, so I want it from my multitool. The Wave+ stripper is completely dull and failed me at home testing. Also awl and puncturing holes are much better with decent tool than with knife or glasses screwdriver. Decent flat and Phillips screwdrivers are sometimes a lifesavers, so Vic is the way for me. Hope this little review helps someone make their choose!
