Best praise vs top criticism for Kona Rove AL 650
βI think that for the type of riding you are describing that something with wider tires would be a good option. I have a Kona Rove and its a pretty good bike. Works well on trails as well as pavement. You probably don't need any suspension. My tires are 47mm wide but reasonably smooth so they don't slow me down much on pavement but still allow me to go offroard on trails as well.β
βThat's a pretty tough ask for a new bike at 900 CAD, especially as prices are going up right now. Looking at Canadian brands the Kona Rove starts at $1150CAD, the Rocky Mountain Solo 30 is $1700CAD, Devinci Hatchet Vista CUES is $1800. Non-CA brands that sell in Canada the Marin Nicasio 1 is $1200, Four Corners 1 is $1350, Gestalt is $1200. Trek Domane AL 2 is $1500, In your budget there's the [Tesla Brodie](https://www.brodiebicycles.com/bike-finder/tesla) at $800 if you don't mind flat bars. Don't buy the $800 Raleigh at Canadian Tire it's a bike that should cost $400. I would visit your local bike shops and see if they have any sales on last years' models or refurbished used bikes, you will get more for your money.β
