Best praise vs top criticism for KitchenAid Classic Series 4.5-Quart Tilt-Head
“America’s Test Kitchen highly recommends the [Ankarsrum](https://shop.kingarthurbaking.com/items/ankarsrum-original-stand-mixer), the KitchenAid 7qt and 4.5qt Classic. I haven’t tried the Ankarsrum, but I have three types of KitchenAids and really like them. If you go with a KitchenAid, bowl lift is the way to go. They’re more powerful and sturdy. I have the 4.5qt Classic Plus (discontinued), 7qt proline (discontinued) and 8qt commercial.”
“I can't speak to options 1 and 2, but the spouse and I each owned a KitchenAid before we got married: I had the classic tilt-head and he had the bigger bowl-lift version. The tilt-head had trouble with bread dough, especially in larger quantities, so we ended up relegating that one and keeping the bowl-lift. He uses it for sourdough mixing and kneading and made two double batches of rolls for Thanksgiving with no issues. I use it for cookies and love that it can handle huge amounts of dough compared to my original mixer.”
