+2 pts“I've experienced the drum effect on our newer mattress. It's a plush tight top King Koil. It was great at first, but I've noticed over the last 5 months it's been feeling firmer to me and I'm starting to wake up with mid back pain. We have a Brookstone Lyocell mattress protector on it, and Sateen 100% cotton sheets. My wife is a good deal heavier than me. 40-50 lbs. When I go to bed before she does, it's great. But in the morning it feels too firm and I'm waking up with pain. We had a 100% cotton mattress protector so it wouldn't be too hot. But I found that it was making the bed too firm. So we switched to the stretchy Lyocell one. I'd love to try a stretchy sheet, but anything other than cotton and it gets too hot for me to sleep. I might try doing 2 flat sheets instead of a flat and fitted sheet. The bigger size sounds like it has promise also. I should also note that our mattress is 15" thick, and I'm using a matching foundation, purchased at the same time.”
