tldr; Budget Kenmore canister for basic cleaning. Bagged, decent suction, good starter vacuum.

Best praise vs top criticism for Kenmore 200 Series Canister
“Back in the 90s a computer guy told me to not to worry about what's coming out next just buy the best that you can afford. The Kenmore 200 vs. a Sebo D4 is night and day. The Kenmore has a lot of drawbacks to usability and it won't last as long. The Kenmore 200 is a capable vacuum for its price. It's a canister vacuum with hepa bags and a powerhead. It's better for carpets because the only Kenmore hard floor brushes are very small and not very maneuverable. Downsides are that it's loud, the wheels are a tricycle setup that's way less maneuverable, it can flip over as it's rolling, and it's built to a price so it will last 3-5+ years. At least buy the Kenmore 400 Series over the 200 Series. The 200 has a clip on cord on the extension wand but the 400 and up all have a covered cord on the wand. Switching tools is much easier on the 400 Seires because you don't have to worry about the external plug on the wand. If you can afford a Sebo D4, it will be quieter, nicer to use, easier to maintain, and last a heck of lot longer. The Downside of course is the price. If the price is really scaring you maybe consider the Sebo E3 or K3, they can both clean as well as the D4, and they will both be quiet and last a long time. I agree with you that the Dart and Felix feel heavy since the motor is higher up. The Felix will feel heavier than the Dart because it takes more arm strength to control an upright vacuum with swivel steering. I prefer Sebos over Mieles because I like to do my own maintenance. But when I use a Miele I'm reminded of how light they are and well rounded they are too. Hope that helps.”
