Best praise vs top criticism for Katabatic Gear Flex
“I have a Katabatic Flex 15 900fill. The loft is insane. Fantastic quilt. Down migration is not an issue”
“I quite like mine (-2C/28F Waratah). The comfort rating seems spot on, and when compared to other quilts it actually has a comparable amount of fill to bags comfort rated to 30F or so (for comparison, Katabatic flex 30F has 15oz of fill and the Waratah has 15.7oz of fill, both in long/wide). So, by fill weight alone, it's comparable. Pros: \- true to ratings - I've taking it to low 30s and been absolutely toasty without problems. I'm a cold-ish sleeper and the 28F seems definitely doable, I could probably use it to 25F comfortably and beyond that layer up. \- I like their baffle design, it makes sense to have horizontal at the feet and vertical on the torso. \- I haven't used the pad attachement straps yet (used it to low 30's comfortable, without the straps or feeling like I had to be careful to avoid drafts), but they seem cleverly implemented \- price - I couldn't find a comparable quilt at a similar price, this was a big one for me. \- included dry bag - it's a small thing, but nice touch when I don't want to spend another $20-30 on a sil stuff sack. Neutral: \- Initially, I didn't like the feel of the fabric; it felt quite plasticky and sticky in warmer weather but I've since gotten used to it. YMMV. \- so far the zipper and closure mechanism has been fine. It's a pretty small zipper so I've been gentle with it. The closure mechanism at the feet also works fine, but have to finagle a bit to get it to block drafts. Cons: \- I have some concerns about their build quality. I've already noticed some loose threads here and there and I hope the baffles won't come undone. The included stuff sack (which is a nice touch) also has some seams coming undone, but it could be from stuffing it pretty tightly. That said, I am comparing it to my last quilts which were known for exceptional build, and my other bag is a WM, so it's really hard to compare when those are exceptionally premium products. \- regarding the above, I'm not sure how their customer service is, but they seem like a tightly run company. Hopefully I won't need to deal with warranty support but this is also something I'm wondering.”
