“Wash day routine: 1. Jamaican black castor oil before taking my braids out to lift any dirt off of the scalp. 2. Take out the braids and comb out the dead hairs in sections. 3. Time to wash! I use head and shoulders to remove all the dirty from my hair and I do about 2-3 rinses. I’ll then wash it once again with Shea moisture Jamaican black castor oil shampoo to give my hair some oils and then rinse again. 4. Worst part! Detangling. This is where I’ll section my hair and use John Frieda Frizz ease deep conditioner (the best!). I’m generous with the amount of conditioner I use in each section which allows for the detangling brush to simply glide throw the curls. 5. Once all my hair has conditioner in it I’ll two strand twist the sections and tie them up so they can fit under a shower cap so that everything softens for 30 minutes to an hour. 6. Once I’m ready to blow dry I’ll take out one section, rinse it out and blow dry it, of course using a heat protectant (TRESemmé heat defence). 7. Once everything is blow dried I’ll then put Pantene gold series hair butter in my hair to lock in the moisture and then I’ll grease my scalp using good old ultra sheen. 8. Finally after 3 hours I get my hair done :)”
“It sounds like you might have moisture-resistant hair, so stop using water-based leave-ins, creams, gels, and humectant-heavy Garnier masks or sprays, and instead use a sulfate-free, amino-acid-based gentle shampoo such as Innersense Pure Harmony or Acure Curiously Clarifying; for conditioner, use **rinse-off only**, choosing either bond-repair options like K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Mask (used strictly as a rinse-off) or Olaplex No. 5, or a protein-free conditioner with good slip; for leave-ins, switch to **pure oils** such as argan oil, jojoba oil, or squalane applied to damp hair, **or** oil serums with film formers—look for silicone-based serums containing dimethicone or cyclomethicone, such as Moroccanoil Treatment or John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum, making sure water is not in the top five ingredients—**or** styling balms like Shea Moisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Finishing Oil Serum; for drying, stop air-drying on soaking-wet hair and instead use a microfiber towel to squeeze or blot excess water so hair is damp, apply product at that stage, then briefly diffuse or air-dry; for styling, stop scrunching or encouraging curl formation with water-based products and instead smooth products down the lengths with flat palms and minimize manipulation once product is applied; at night, stop using cotton pillows and tight braids and switch to a satin or silk pillowcase or a satin bonnet, wearing hair in a loose high bun or pineapple rather than a braid to avoid mechanical stress; clarify weekly to remove buildup from water-based products using a chelating shampoo such as Malibu C Hard Water Wellness or Kinky-Curly Come Clean; deep-condition only as a rinse-off using Olaplex No. 3 for 20 minutes (rinsed fully) or any protein-free deep conditioner with slip, and **do not leave any conditioner in**; when choosing products, avoid humectants like glycerin, aloe, propylene glycol, and panthenol in the top five ingredients, look for oils and esters as primary ingredients such as jojoba, argan, squalane, or caprylic/capric triglyceride, favor film formers like dimethicone, amodimethicone, and cyclomethicone, and remember that protein is fine in rinse-off products but should be avoided in leave-ins.”
