Best praise vs top criticism for Hammock Gear Economy Burrow
“Quilts have definitely gone up in price over the years. HG used to have econ burrow topquilt that was around $200. Now starting price is 300+ depending on who makes it. For 1st underquilt 20° will be the best temp rating as it will cover all your needs and wide version at 48in is nice to have. Same for top quilt but if you plan on tent camping ever, make sure to get a wider quilt 55in or 60in depending on your build and if side/active sleeper. Drafts collars are a nice to have for both. Most of your budget will be spent on your hammock insulation. As far as hammocks go there are a ton of brands to choose from .If you are below 6'3 a standard 11ft gathered end hammock with integrated bug net will do nicely. I am not big on Hennessy hammocks, My personal favorites are Dutchware chameleon for it's modularity and dutch bling (also they just released an insulated hammock which looks great), Dream Hammock Darien as it light & simple or Warbonnet Blackbird as it's bombproof. Hammocks are easy to find and a piece of gear I would get used starting out. Hammock Hangers Flea market is a good Facebook group to find good used hammock gear. Just about any silpoly tarp that will cover your hammock length will work.”
“I'm 5'10" 200 lbs and run a HG Econ Burrow 20 and Nemo Tensor Insulated (Regular/Wide). I primarily side sleep, though I've been working on sleeping on my back, but have had no issues with this setup. Sometimes if the ground is not flat or has some rocks, side sleeping can be a bit uncomfortable, but overall this has worked pretty well for me.”
