Unfortunately I don't have LP's units to compare firmness, but I can give you all the details of ours. Our QuadCoil makes our units more rigid. They also don't lean. There is no "accordion effect" if you will. You can take our unit without scrim sheet and put it on its side and it will stand like a book. That's not happening with any other companies unit without scrim holding everything together. If you are referring specifically to our 1008 unit, due to the coil geometry, 10" coil in an 8" pocket, 7 turns/convolutions , wire is heat treated before the coil is made and the coil density of this unit runs on the firm side. The 15.5gauge is more like a medium. Its certainly not plush, It has a fair amount of pushback. The 14.75 is more of a medium firm. If someone is a side or stomach sleeper, 15.5 gauge all day long, unless you are over 225lbs. The 1008 is our premium coil unit, we also have coil units that have different coil counts: 720, 800, 820, 768, 884. A 15.5 1008 might be equal in feel to a 14.75g 884 and a 15.5g 1008 will be a completely different feel than a 15.5g 720. All the same raw materials, but with different coil geometry's. I don't have an ILD reading of our units broken down by gauge. We've just (three weeks ago) installed our new ILD testing machine so within a couple months Ill have readings for all units with all gauges. Keep in mind that that ILD is a measurement in isolation. Once you add other layers, it will completely change the readings. We stress that you should keep pocket coil mattress builds simple and try to avoid over layering. If you want to check back with me in a months time, Ill be happy to share the ILD data that we've recorded. Perhaps I didn't fully answer your question, but I hope it was useful info.

Kind of a unique way of layering it. I've tried that with a 2" layer of memory foam, but it was too thick. That sounds like it would a firm mattress, unless the coils are very soft. I just read all the reviews on ES memory plus. Seems like it's more firm than I expected for lighter people. At least they're willing to make comfort exchanges. That does make me think my plan of using 14.75G TPS springs is probably a bad one.
